Today winds shifted from west to Northeast. This has caused the North Complex (Claremont and Bear) fire to jump containment and explode. This is in the heart of the northern Mother Lode belt of the Sierras. Winds pushed the fire across the Middle Fork Feather River this morning, then exploded to 20,000 acres. It is racing down the middle fork canyon at the rate of 1,000 acres per hour. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for LaPorte,Ca., and Little Grass Valley Res. as well as LaPorte road south into Yuba County. In addition, Butte County has ordered Mandatory Evacuations of everything east of Lake Oroville to the Plumas County line.

My claim and likely all our equipment burned in this fire in it's early stages. Many others could suffer the same fate.

I'm praying that other miners had enough time to get their equipment out early enough.

Everybody else, please pray for rain....

Sorry to hear you lost all your gear Mike. Luckily, equipment can be
replaced; people can't.

Those fires are evil beasts, indeed. It was real hazy
here all day, as there are fires burning just the other
side of the Cascades.
