Hello all! David here, I am an army civilian working and living in germany. The bug has bit me for metal detecting but budgets only allow for a little fun money. I recently purchased a Bounty Hunter Quicksilver that came with the pin pointer to start with. I know it is not the top of the line but with my limited time to do this I have no way to justify a larger more expensive machine. Testing it in my back yard has allowed me to determine 2 things, I have a lot of iron in the back yard and German modern coins are not so good after being in the ground as they rust from the center. First coin I found was a 1950 10 pfenning coin that other than the rust was in good shape. Today I got a chance to hit the local army post that will be closing down within the next 6-8 months and is basically empty now. I decided to try next to the chapel and hit iron right at the edge of the sidewalk on the first swing. It was a cool looking nail thing, 2 feet away I hit foil and 4 feet after that the Quicksilver buzzed and told me their was a coin. The ground was so hard that my little camping shovel folded on me and I had to hack the ground to dig, low and behold 4-6" deep, 1942 wheat penny! Other than the typical tarnishing, lines are clean and sharp. After digging I covered up my hole and had to get home. I hope to get back this weekend and check the entire area out and have a real shovel with.
