No Snooping Permitted of Mosques in the U.S

If bias is a problem for people, why do they feel they can point to their biased sources, but then claim other people's biased sources should not be considered? If you REALLY have a problem with bias, you would be pointing it out when the sources you prefer are engaging in it, not just always pointing fingers at others over that. If you post a source from Fox News, or other known right wing propaganda mills, why do you think you can find fault with those who post sources that are also biased?

I look at the sources quoted in the articles. I go straight to the meat of the matter and simply tune out the agenda part. If the source does not back up what is claimed, or is not a valid source (obvious bias and no objective data), then I disregard what is being claimed. I'm not concerned with people's opinions, I am concerned with what they can prove with verifiable facts. Whether it is from the right OR the left.

If you claim to be in search of the truth, that requires objectivity, and not treating your opinions like they are some kind of religion that can't be questioned.

Glad to know I am not the only person who does this.

That is my biggest gripe about debating people here. Why is it that I have no problem sifting through ANY source to find the meat of the matter?

When one is analyzing any information, special care should be used to ensure that you are reading the pertinent facts of the story. One must use information in context and decide how it is being presented, to whom, and by whom. That, combined with ones own knowledge of a subject, can then be used to analyze the information and COME TO YOUR OWN CONCLUSION based on the results.

Dave,

No doubt, the DailyKos is left leaning.

... and the cosmos is the space between your ears.

Not only left leaning, but a blog? Really? Aren't you one of the folks who is critical of a blog being used as a source?

I don't use blogs as they are "opinion pieces" and as always very politically slanted to the writer.

If it isn't a news source that I use to back up my statement, I will tell you up front that it is my OPINION. Now, you must decide once and for all ... do you accept others' posting from blogs, or not. We expect the same from you. That's how grownups behave.

Bullys, on the other hand, want to make up the rules to suit their situation. Tsk, tsk, tsk!

Some people don't read information that is posted if they feel it won't support their agenda, and then they make the mistake of assuming everyone else is similarly motivated to engage in that kind of selective perception. If you post a claim, but then choose to ignore anything and everything that might prove you wrong, how can you find fault with others for posting that evidence, or claim to be in search of the truth?

Your reply is frustrating on so many levels, I dont even know how to respond. Not because I cant but because you are so unbelievable, it leaves me speechless.

So if I posted this in response to something a right winger here posted, would it be considered an attack?

Matt, dont even waste your time.

I have been trying harder lately to ONLY post meaningful information that is directly related to the topic.

It seems several folks only want to bicker and squabble, typically about semantics and name calling. IMO, that is a pointless waste of time and serves to do nothing but divide us further. In such a scenario, no one wins.

Yep.

Good luck to all,

That's exactly what I said ... and yet when I post proof from the SSA, from a SSN search from the three credit bureaus, and prove points beyond any reasonable shadow of a doubt, you guys ignore it and go back to the original accusations of bias on my part.

Do I sense a "double standard"? I think so ....

Ben, on more than one occasion I have read your complaints about others using blogs to prove a point.

Now, it is up to you: Are blogs (i.e. 'opinion pieces') acceptable proof or not?

What's acceptable to you FOREVER?

Grownups aren't so fickle as to change opinions about whether a source is good or not with each post, so you have to make up your mind and STICK TO IT.

So you have read the sources I have posted?

Chad:

You claim to "...prove points beyond any reasonable shadow of a doubt..."

You don't.

Your SSN search claim is a good example. You quote someone who claims to have done something that appears to have been completely illegal. We know all three credit bureaus are something less than 100% accurate. You ignore the statements made by the Social Security Administration itself.

Good luck to all,

Ben, my comment was directed at one "understatement" in your post. It was not an attack or saying you were less than intelligent ... it was rather a comparative statement.

Saying that the DailyKos is left leaning is equivalent to saying the space between your ears is the size of the Cozmos.

Dave,

No doubt, the DailyKos is left leaning. There are only a few sites that expose right wing nonsense (such as DailyKos). There are hundreds if not thousands of sites that will post and repost the same nonsense articles (such as the one posted by the OP).

One would think that facts trump blogs ... especially blogs that are so very left leaning they have completely lost contact with reality but ... if it's the best you got :cat:

So you have read the sources I have posted?

Yes, and they lie about the numbers. When you lie, you lose my respect. When you use liars as your source, you should lose everyone's respect.

The problem with your sources is obvious. They failed to confirm the bias those who read them arrived with.

Those who aren't willing to question the premise aren't going to arrive at any new conclusions. Or learn very much.

Thanks to the Internets there is more information available than ever before. But it doesn't include critical thinking or other analysis. You have to pay extra for that.

Good luck to all,

Hey, it's 9:18am Cal time on Nov 5 and there still isn't a "Uncle Matt likes this" tag on the above post. I've found it to be like the congregation hollerin' AMEN at every word of the minister. :)
