wowsers! that's too cold for this transplanted Georgia peach and I've been fussing about NC Winters brrrrrrrr

Best use care when hunting in that cold weather...your fingers might freeze off and your hand turn to stone like this poor fool's hand did...so sad View attachment 911785

you are right peaches..........iv'e seen about a half a dozen of them froze hands layin' around over in mandan the last couple days...........
...............that's what happens when you lose yer gloves

Burrrrrrrrr you could warm up in the freezer haha hop a plane and come to tennessee ;)

this north dakota plowboy just might show up at your door.......might take me a while...i'm scared of airplanes and my john deere only goes 20 mph in high gear haha

I'm kinda stuck in between your bad and the southern boys winter weathers. It can get killer cold here! I'm close to where the Miss. and Ohio rivers merge.
hey hey thanks for all the kind words
i didn't mean to turn this into a chat and never thought i would get so much response here

well i guess this cold up north here is what makes Quito, Jon, and me so dang tough!!

mamabear i can knit but i'm gonna play guitar and banjo instead, maybe try to organize a few frames also

you know diggin-dmps i would go huntin' i'd have to shovel the snow to see the dirt hehe

yup gator, rock, hognutz, and eddie and outlaw i guess it is what it is with the bugs down south and the cold and cracked flint up here........

...can't change it lol

well now this morning look what the little bit of wind can do
no wind in bis-bang so the temp and wind chill are the same
but look up at mind-rot and devils lake and grand forks and see what a 10mph wind can do to the chill factor
i hope nobody minds this kinda off topic thread here.... i never thought this would generate this many posts
ND has 4 indian reservations which are large and have big casinos

since we are talking about winter I thought you all might like to see these taken at this mornings sunrise. Had some serious ice fog and it was 2degrees.

I'm going a bit off topic as well, I just went outside to throw wood in the stove, the air temp here is minus 13 right now.
I'm just wanting to remind everyone of our pets and livestock when it gets like this.
My dog is inside on the couch, my outdoor cats all have blankets and cat houses converted from old bee boxes. Put extra straw in my chicken coop. Make sure they all have water!!
I guess thats all, thanks everyone and happy holidays...

yep thats cold, stay warm mr larson

Yes Sir, kinda a seasonal thing in your area. It'll make the hunting all the better when you can get back out.

Think about your Mandan buddies back in the day...I would be real interested in how and what all they used to combat cold weather. There was sure some great prime fur around. Buff robes etc. Food for another thread maybe.

keep your powder dry.

the site i take care of had over 90 earth lodges at one time and each one had ten to twenty people living along with their dogs and buffalo ponies inside.......

......and they were warm

here is some more viddy..............the last half will show you some more about the earh lodges that kept the three affiliated tribes of the mandan, hidatsa, and arikara people warm
if you look at 17:40 on this video you will see my arikara friend kieth bear from the fort berthold res playing the flute and also my lakota sioux
sister-in-law LaDonna talking about the culture

Larson1951: those southern boys don't know the life that we live in up here in the north, LOL We are also getting blasted today here in Michigan. 19 degrees standing temp with a 0 degree wind chill and it is going to get worse,!!!!!

Besides Florida I have lived in Okinawa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Missouri and North Dakota, Minot, ND...

ND by far the coldest. ...We were getting lows of -40 F with wind chills in the -80s F....

We will NOT go quietly into the night!

going to be highs of 40s and 50s this week here. If there is no wind it aint that bad at all. Might rain again on Sat I hope not the creek needs to go down a few feet.

Hey Steve you can keep the -0 temps and I will keep my bugs. I can buy off and use my thermacell, then no bugs and not worry about my pipes that are only 12in the ground that never freezes. I have to admit your country is very pretty, love to see it but I'll live in the south any day. Happy Holidays.

Currently it’s pretty nippy but we get breaks in the wintertime temps and have warm spells.
From my own personal experiences I would say that the quality of the artifacts found on the
Great Plains more than makes up for dealing with a little snow and cold. :sunny:

2012-12-04 07.51.51.jpg2012-12-04 07.51.34.jpgMy house last Sat. in Florida. It's 81 and sunny. Bring me a box of those nice points you have and I got a spare room for the winter!

Brutal, Steve! And I would not go HH in that either. On the other hand, sometimes you just have to be crazy:laughing7: I guess sometimes I've been there. Years ago, well I was younger, there ya go, I decided to go hunting in a wind chill of 25 below. Took 20 minutes or so just to dress right in several layers. Low spot on the bay could only be reached at extreme moon low tides after a long walk in lean yourself forward winds. Only thing I didn't cover was my eyes. Sunglasses protected them. Walked up onto the spot in question, and in less then 1 minute, all showing at my feet. Put it in my pocket and got my butt back to the car. Walked in the door at home and :hello2: Best ever personal find triangle. Paid being crazy!

Warmer days are surely comin!

Well, the Chinook winds are here. Yesterday it was in the single digits, and today it is in the lower 40s. Now don't that beat all.

60s in the days and low 30s at night for now that's not bad, and rain on the way. If you don't like the weather in Ms. just hang around it will change in a day or two.

I started work this morning at 15 degrees and that would b a warm front for y'all
