I'm clueless as to what this is. It is not lead as it is not very dense at all. It feels like pumice almost. It is .586" diameter. .675" long. It appears to have a noticeable center seam. It only weighs 115 grains or 7.5 grams. It lights the metal detector up. It is dented on one end and feels nothing like metal. It was found near a well worn colonial route in the piedmont triad region of NC near a weird looking round and a pulled musket ball

One side has been cut. the other side is not smooth

Maybe part of an inline fuel filter element.

if its the right diameter it may have been shot through a musket being that one end is dented. Its documented melting utensils to make balls --what if u used a stick the right size as barrel, put a hole in clay, poured it, and snipped it off to length using a blacksmith nippers? It would look just like that! LOL?
