Hi, I have a couple more interesting items. I found these the same day as I found that copper disk. These were in an area where I found Civil War relics and buttons. They appear to be brass and about the diameter of a dime. There are tiny holes going through both sides. I was thinking something to do with artillary?? Any ideas on the wire with the lead ends??? If stretched out it would be about 8 inches long. Thank for looking.

Welcome to the forum enhh. The wire with lead ends appears to be to connect a series of batteries together; such as on a golf cart.

The first pic I do not know, but looks as if it fits on a shaft, the holes for a pin.

Are you sure? I find one or two of them everytime I go out & in every field. Even in the middle of no-where. I have put hundreds of them in the hedge, they are a pain to find as the are a great signal. I can't believe that there were that many broken umbrella's about.

They must have used a lot of umbrellas in the UK. :)

I'm unsure of Spelling.

But "Parasol" ?
I think they would have the same type Release.
& wasn't the Parasol a hot item for women at one time ?

Maby every little girl had one back when that Disney Movie (Musical)
came out ? (can't remember name or star) was it Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang
with the Floating Girl ?
Or they were all trying to be Flying Nuns :P

Tons more than I would have guessed. It makes me wonder how they got into the ploughed fields in the first place? Specially fields which have been ploughed for 100s of years with no old roads, footpaths, & towns near by?

May be signs the Fields may have been used for a County Fair.
at one point.
although it would still be strange so many were Broken or left behind
to rot.

There was an item about umbrella parts in Mark Parker's column in the June 2006 issue of Western & Eastern Treasures. I couldn't find it online, but here's a quote from it:

Actually, it’s part of the hardware from an old umbrella, and the notches are where the ribs or stretchers were held in place. The ribs of an umbrella’s canopy fit into what’s called a “top notch”; and the stretchers, the shorter lengths that attach the ribs to the shaft, are connected to a “runner,” the piece that moves up and down the umbrella shaft when the canopy is opened or closed. Quite a few of these turn up in Civil War camps, and many relic hunters refer to them as “parasol braces.”

Don't worry, you guys convinced me some time ago. However I am still puzzelled at how many thousands of acres these items have been spread. I get them on most of my land.

One good thing dugfinds is that I too have found them in an area that had activity 140 years ago. Parasols must have been a very common item. It's nice to hear that others have found them in older areas.
