I found this out by a tree in my yard, I haven't the slightest idea what it's used for, it appears to be once piece of metal inside the other, with a hole in the bottom that goes all the way through. Comes up as .50/$1 every time for some reason. It seems to be very soft and easily scratched/bent. It's almost exactly half as tall as a can of soda and 1/3 wide Any Ideas?

LOL, you're so funny. ;D Could it have been a lighter and the top half is gone? Maybe the hole is where you would squirt the lighter fluid and the little screw is missing. I'm grasping at straws here. LOL :tongue3:

Hmm maybe...but how would it work? You put fluid in the bottom and then what? Doesn't look like much of a place to attach anything on the top to ignite or keep it sealed, plus it's rounded.....but what do I know.

Well I see your point, but it looks like it's missing a top, like a lid or cap that fits over the smaller part.

Do the two pieces move around? Is there anything written on it anywhere? Will a magnet stick to it? Or is it aluminum?

The two pieces don't move but that could be due to the fact it's badly squished on one place. My hard drive magnet showed no interest in it so it's not magnetic. And there are no markings of any kind.

I finally got the pic to come through and it looks like it's made of aluminum to me? Still haven't a clue as to what it is though. Monty

I think Quicksilver (aka appletree) got it. It looks like its from an old tube type radio or TV. I think someday old tubes will be collectible, esp the large and unusuasl ones. I used to have a ton of 'em. :(

Maybe a floorboard bright light switch. Remember those?
My 85 van still has one, i just replaced it. I will go look.
Here is a pic of my floor switch. It is steel, has no top hole and is conneccted to a larger base. Good guess but a floor switch it is NOT. BTW I bought this old Sony mavica camera on eBay for $15. Takes good close ups.
