I extracted this little bugger from the my back yard... It appears to be copper, and is hollow. dented on one side, it looks like a large button/ the holes on top, but doubt that it is....any ideas?

could it be a basketball or baseball charm ... something an athlete would have gotten in high school ?????

no marks/patterns on it at all...

Ball Button Is My Guess.

Did you find it in an area where the CW was fought?

I think it is a large ball button too.

Neat find :)

Bell clapper maybe ????

What the heck, ??? I've never even heard of a ball button... :icon_scratch: I guess that's what it is though !! :dontknow:

Cool find !! 8-)

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

From what I heard some ball buttons could be Soave buttons. I think they were a New York Militia group during the Civil War.
That could be it. Or it could be a bell dinger. I think Mackaydon will probably know what this might be.
He has been extremely helpful in the past.

My back yard, Old Ft Myers, FL...minimal civil war here...seems to be not THAT old, 50 or so years old I would guess... Thankyou for looking. It was a good question. HH

split sinker

lots of fishing junk in my yard, I didn't think of that a great guess, but if you read along, the consensus is a ball button. Thankyou for your input, and HH

Thank you to all for your ideas and input. I had no clue, and through your suggestions, I looked up ball buttons and learned something new. I LOVE THIS HOBBY, so much to learn from good people on the T'net..I think you all need a pat on the back and a high-five for helping me out. A ball button....Very very exciting.

You don't need to have actual an actual battle site to pick up Civil War finds. I would agree on it being a button and have seen ball buttons on old Zouave uniforms online. There were both union and confederate Zouaves. I Googled Zouave and Florida and there is record of Louisiana Zouave battalion mustering at Pensacola to be sent to Petersburg. Might want to check that route. Cool button!
