I went to a local park that is directly behind a row of late 1800's houses. I found a half of a musket ball first. Then in between two 200 year old+ oak trees, I got a solid, repeatable tone and 50 VDI on Julio. Dug down 4" to find this: An 1867 Shield Nickle! Worn for sure, but still legible. My oldest US coin to date. I barely touched this park and will be going back...Also found a little happy face/ BFF kid's necklace in a different park. Came home with about $6.00 in clad for charity. Thanks for looking, Happy Hunting to all of my TNet friends! Sub8-)

Nice! Keep digging those mid tones! Don't get spoiled and pass them up!

Yes, dig the mid tones. The priciest items are in the mid tone range, like Confederate buttons and gold! Dig the iffy signals too. Nice coin.

Congratulations! That coin would be a big deal to me. Great find! I get frustrated with the mid-tones on my AT Pro, as it is often junk. However, there are some nice finds to be had if you make the effort. Good luck.

Nice hunt, the shield looks pretty good to me, they are always fun to unearth, congrats on your oldest

The nickel is very cool, Congrats! Bet there's some more there for you to find!

Congrats thats a big deal I guess it depends where you are some people dig coppers like I dig bottle caps my town founded in 1826 I dont find half the stuff some do and no wars fought here I dont know why there are some great battle ground sites. Great job and nice coin my friend.!!!!!Keep rippin Tommy

That’s a great coin! I haven’t been able to get a date off of either of the shield nickels that I’ve found.

After all these years I STILL haven't found one of them! Go figure!

Congratulations! Always a great feeling finding your oldest coin! Hopefully you will find an older one before too long. I'm still looking for a Shield Nickel.

Congrats on finding the Shield Nickel. 1867 was only the second year of issue. Some of the 1867's had rays on the reverse but yours is the "No Rays variety.

Extremely elusive coin....and a nice find!

Great old coin in our book!!!!!! She really doesn't look that bad! Congrats on your Shield Nick!!! :occasion14:

Congrats Sub! Still on my bucket list. Congrats!

Congrats on digging your oldest U.S. coin Sub. That Nickel has a very clear date.

Congrats it's hard to find shield nickels that are not completely wasted. My only one is way worse! That's a good one in my book!
