first started at a playground and spent about 15 minutes there but found something unusual... 2 large shell casings both found about 7-8" down.. this is really not a historical or relic type place, but if anyone can ID these casings, i could get a better idea what they are doing in a playground with no historical background that i'm aware of..

after the playground I hit behind one of the popular spring break condo for some lost loot... (only pocket change, but hey, its money)
total take for the day: 2 shell cases, 27 pennies, 3 nickles, 14 dimes, 18 quarters, 37 ptabs, 2 bandage clips

thanks for readin!

What do the back ends of the casing look like? Many newer ones have the manufacturer and caliber listed.

Looks like a typical deer rifle caliber to me, but maybe my sense of scale is off.

on the back its stamped with DM on the top 43 on the bottom.. only readable on one.. other doesnt have markings that are visible...

and if that thing is being used for a deer, it would most likely be to take off its head... its a rather large casing =)

My sense of scale was off. Probably a .50 caliber BMG casing from WWII. Field used for Army training?

Found online:

.50 Cal. Browning machine gun round, WW2 dated case marked DM 43, manufactured by Des
Moines Ordnance Plant, Iowa
£4.00p

I dont know on the casings.Thats a fair amount of clad.If you keep digging those pul tabs, your gonna hit some rings and necklaces of the GOLD type.Keep at it buddy and the gold IS gonna come.HH

like i said, says DM 43 but good reasearch, how a WWII casing ended up in a playground at 8" let alone 2 of them, i have no idea.. but i'm going to search that park again tuesday on my next day off... would have never thought that something like that would have been in this area whatsoever... but i'm excited and definatly going to go through that playground very carefully...
