A little outing today and I found my nicest buckle ever. I believe it to be pewter (if it's possible). I can seem to make out the brand (maybe Jameson) ans I have no clue of the possible date (the site as a lot of history). Any help is welcomed from you experts.

Very, very nice one  1750-1790s

How can you tell it's form that timeframe. I don't know anything about shoe buckles, so I'm intrested in learning.

The internal workings, plus a book helps

I'm I right saying it's pewter ? Did they make buckle in that metal ?

they did, but I think yours is heavily tinned & has a copper-alloy core.

Forgot to say, I have hundreds of buckles & have never found a complete shoe buckle yet, the plough smashes them up.

I found this one in the woods, so that might explain de condition.

Great condition. I've found one complete shoe buckle but not as ornate as yours.

Sweet Buckle ! Looks like a very old site.

great finds

This is a Stunning find in terms of condition.

Few old coins could top it, as far as I'm concerned!

Let's just say that I hope this place has some old coins or buttons too. The soil seems really gentle on metal. It was only three inches deep in a mix of dirt and medium size rocks.

tell ya what, if a shoe buckle could ever make banner, I bet yours would be the one.
my eyes popped out when I saw that,
great find,
