Hello all, got out today metal detecting a field (not enough rain on the field to seriously hunt points) but I did come across this beauty. It's been a while since I've found a complete point (well almost), mostly broken ones ( although I like finding those too!) I'm not too familiar with dating or identifying these so any insight us definitely appreciated. It was found in Northern North Carolina (piedmont) near Virginia if that helps. Thanks for looking & HH!

Not this weekend but I did find a VERY sweet button in a nearby field yesterday, and found a couple relics today (was only able to hunt a couple hours today) I also found a couple broken points yesterday (see below)

Nice finds. I found one while out. Cleaned it up best I could and got a date of 1847 off it. One cent piece. I'm not familiar with all the coins though. This is my fifth coin while point hunting mostly on beaches and rock bars. All between 1890 and 1847.

That's sweet, I haven't found a large cent yet, still on my bucket list. I hunt plowed fields for points so I get a lot of broken ones...

Thanks for the ID, I need to brush up on this, I've just had the detecting bug lately, I've started detecting fields that I've arrowhead hunted for years (I notice the pottery, glass etc and thought, hey I should detect here, and its really been paying off)

I do the same thing. any place you found pipe fragments or ceramic like pearl ware..ect.. usually turn out real good.

A good example of an early piece of pottery I found in the field today, a very good sign. Targets are few and far between but I like it. Very little trash (other than shotgun shells) whenever I get a high tone in the field I get a little excited...

No reason you can't look for points at the same time. Good luck.

Thanks! I'm still gonna hit you up to go hunting when I have a little more time! BTW - any idea on age of these points?

Guilfords. Mid archaic in the Piedmonts 8,000-6,000BP.
