I have found many of these. All of these are either like new, or wore slap out. Are they large knives or what?

Another odd find that I frequently run across are these.

These are also found in a wide variety of sizes.

The 5 in a group are blanks/rejects and they probably felt the stone was not worthy of further attention after reducing it to that stage. I assume they are bifacial. Sometimes they would do secondary work on an edge to use it as a tool. I am not seeing that. I have many in buckets. I used to not keep them but as I am always learning I keep them now for further study when bored. They are worked by man and considered artifacts.
The other are geofacts that may have had a piece knocked off to see what was under the skin. That cortex or skin can hide some good material sometimes. Crack one in half and see what is inside and you will see yourself. Fun stuff and where you find the blanks you will find the ones they continued to work and maybe find that killer.
Hope this helps. These seem to be a typical field find and not so much a river find. I can show like examples should you wish.
Good post.

i think those are nice unfinished tools my friend
but for one reason or another someone never finished them
what kind of material is that
i don't think we have that up north
it looks like it can be flaked and worked fairly good
i think i would have kept most of them also

I see that in the bottom 3. Why do the top 3 have a notch in the same spot? I can show more of them. My friend has one that is 16'' long. Same notch.??

It is black underneath the patina. I'm gonna say flint.

Bottom 3 on first pic. :-)

Material is ryholite, patina/age/exposure turns it green on the outside.

this is what i think i see, with out better pictures.
pictures1. -prefroms
2.&3 - very old bone or p. wood (Need better pic.)
4. & 5. - old bone

The top groups looks to be preforms. That bottom large piece looks like interesting material. That dark spot on the lower right looks like there might be some nice knapping material behind all that cortex. Find a flintknapper and have them look at it. If it were mine I would cook it up and try and flintknap it.

I appreciate the help fellas! I know the last piece is stone, the smaller piece?? Do not know. I'll place them in a nice geofact pile. The preforms, I'll keep inside. My dad found one of those, I think he found the larger one. Thanks again!

Man...that banded rayholite piece is nice. Its definitely not all banded like that. Here is a piece or two.

Do you remember the day I found it? I sent you a pic. Lol! I took your word for it.i think you called it right though. Slate keeps a nicer shine. The pic I posted us of the stone while wet.
