I got out in the woods today looking for some better condition coins,
followed a timber road, then stone walls.
Spotted apple trees in full bloom, which lead to the foundation.
searched a small area near the trees and got my first heel plate,
then a Nichols Stallion 250 capgun, well made toy from the 1960s :dontknow:
single or double action, fired a 250 round roll. still fully functional and selling for around $50 in fair condition
Lots of iron near the pile of rocks, I pulled an Otto Benz torch, design hasn't changed
I get an iffy signal at the edge of an iron null, dug it up, nice 1892 Barber Dime.
(I have the last Seated and the first Barber now)
I've learned this woods hunting is messier and more difficult than mudflatting.
This farmer had some nice fields, dark brown loam as deep as I dug anywhere,
would love to have this in my (sandy, rocky) yard !
Happy I was able to get some finds without rubber boots ;D
Great digs to you All !

Very pretty place to dig, and good finds.
Love those barbers

Looks like you've found yourself a nice spot there. Nice lil silver and a lot of cool finds to go along with it! HH!

Nice finds Herbie! :icon_thumright:

Love the look of the heel plate and that Barber is in really nice shape! :o

I got a call yesterday afternoon while I was in mid-dig from "Sentinel". He wondering if the ring had arrived yet. He told me that he'd sent it for restoration and it was mailed direct to me by the restorer, so he hasn't seen it yet either. I'll send both of you a picture of it when I get it.

Take care,
Dave

PS. Great site pics!

Nice silver indeed.

Cool old site.

If you want to keep your machine from nulling, set it to accept iron coins. You don't hear anything when nulled, this way you can hunt right in the iron, just a though.

I like that heel plate, I would like to dig one with a star or a heart. So far I have only found a couple of the clover type.

Real nice heel plate.

Looks like you're into a nice spot. But, don't go harshing on the sandy, rocky soil too much, coppers come out looking a whole lot nicer from that type of soil than the dark, moist soil you're diggin' in now. Though, I would dig through cement for a copper in any condition these days...

Great post as usual

Keep at it !!

Where do find all this awesome property to detect. You must know the whole town! :laughing7:

Great saves man
Thanks All!
Mike,
Up here north of Rochester, a lot of land is owned by a Timber Company.
Small Green and White signs border their property "Trees Water & Recreation Area'
All these areas open for MD'ing, or what have you.
Good Public relations for the company. Great for MD'ers ;D
HH to all

Looking forward to seeing that ring Dave!
Steve, I've heard so much of the heart heel plates. (the only shape I've heard of other than your clovers and my star)
I wonder if it's really the reason, or just 'urban legend'.
are your heel plates of womens size? were there heel plates for mens boots?
Mine is too small to be for mens size 11 Boots.
Rick, thanks for the tip, I keep my screen more than 3/4ths open, I think this accepts all but the heaviest ferrous, let me know if you think I should open up some more areas.
thanks for all your replies! HH to all

Thanks Brian!
I just want that dirt in my yard!
I see how coppers & buttons come out of that southern 'sugar sand'
Sheesh, like they were dropped yesterday, though I think any soil will be kinder to coppers than the salt mud I usually hunt, (maybe not, I've gotten some decent drapeds & georgies, they come from the clay beneath the mud)
Best Digs

How did I miss this post till now? Sweet barber dime Herbie! :icon_thumright:

That's a great dime with a strong strike Herbie. Much lighter circulation than the 1897 dime I dug about 2 weeks ago. Nice heel plate and other recoveries too Herbie. HH, Quindy.

Great stuff as always. We need to meet up sometime!
