Anyone have a nice knife form they would like to show?

This piece was laying on a table at a local farm retirement auction 3 miles from me a few years ago. It’s just over 4.5 inches long.
The home place was in a very desirable location right above a creek. I asked the owner about it, he said he found it nearby. Only artifact he had ever picked up. I suspect the place holds much more. It’s along the same creek most of the sites I hunt are on.
i couldn’t stay long enough for it to sell so I left a little cash with a friend and got it.

Killer finds , T.C. Did you clean the river stain off that or leave it ? What’s the material ? Would love to see a few close up pics of that sweet blade

Thanks all!
It's obsidian and no, I left the patina on. Here's a couple of more pics...it's listed in Overstreet's (12th), as a Cougar Mountain.

I'd shat my drawers if I saw that laying in the water. Looks like a dagger.

Spectacular!!

Those cougar mountains sure have a heck of a long stem!!

11 inches and complete is really something.

Freeze and thaw actions wouldn’t allow that in this area!

What's it do break them? It freezes here mighty cold -30 regularly too I know of many big pieces up to 18" doesn't hurt them a bit.

Wels, that is just obsene, man. Had to be like pulling a rope out of the ground.

Maybe I am imagining things, but I am a concrete contractor and I see how much concrete gets snapped when the frost expands the ground. So, I figure with our heavy soil and 4+ foot of frost coming in and going out annually, it seems it would be hard on anything long, narrow, thin, and easy to snap.

Obviously though, some soils are more forgiving.

That's a beaut, and a helluva resto job.

Found this one with just the stem sticking up in a field that had just been bottom plowed. That was in the winter of '87/'88. They haven't plowed it since. 5.25" long.

Did you wash it off and then hold it up to a light. I love to see the different banding in these pieces. You can't see it but my CM had some grey swirl in it.

Yes yours had beautiful banding in it,an exceptional piece and very rare whole. This knife is just opaque grey obsidian. Did you ever meet the Presley family? Denny had an 18"knife made of grey OBS. Sold it on ebay about 10 years ago.

We're pretty close on weather, I worked with a "kid" from Rapid City, about 40 years ago. The only thing different is we don't get freezing at 4+ feet...that's pretty deep! We may have different soil as well.
