Long story short. I got to hunt 3 old properties with a friend after work. 2 of them had some type of interference where my etrac was not working normally. I didn't have any notable finds there. On the way home I decided to stop at a school where I have had some luck recently. I never used to hunt nickels, but I started last year. All summer I have had a goal to find a Liberty Nickel (V Nickel), but they have eluded me while I have watched my sons find them on some of our hunts. I found this 1868 shield nickel on my second target almost passed it up the signal was not solid. Glad I didn't. I also found a 39 mercury dime before leaving. Detail of this coin is great for its age.

Congratulations on the shield and the merc.

That shield has some wonderful detail. Nickels were often overlooked by cherry pickers.

That is an awesome nickel. Excellent condition and old! Very well done.

Very nice looking shield nickel, congratulations!

Great Coin! Congratz!!!

That's one the nicest Shield Nickels I've seen posted up, congrats on the find.

Wow, that shield is a survivor!, excellent detail on it, heck of a find!

Great detail on that nickel! I've only found one and no where near as nice as this.

THAT...is sweet! :icon_thumleft:

Nice find George. I am still looking for my 1st shield nickle.

Looks better than most of the 1980's Jefferson Nickels I find. Congrats on that beauty, I am still waiting on my first Shield Nickel, as it will have finished my dug nickel type set.

Sweet--dont come out of the ground like that very often

Rare to see dug in that condition, congrats!!

very nice sheild

Think your right! Awesome Details!

Sweet condition, I found mine with rays but in bad condition.

All the shields I've pulled have been wasted from time in the ground. I'm glad to see someone is finding nice ones. I have one in decent condition only because it was sandwiched between two coins. The conditions must have been perfect around that coin.

Congrats!

That is probably one of the best Shield Nickels I have ever seen that came out of the dirt. It is without a doubt in great shape.
