NFAR Answer Please

If I get to YJims tomorrow and find my thermo meter I will get one for you.

Today I see the water flow is still hovering around the 550-600 CFS number with that being considerably less than its historical ~ 1800 CFS at this time of year, per USGS. I've been swimming in it in early June and it was way lower, ~ 200 CFS. I've also been in it in late May and froze my buttocks off! Yearly differences. It looks like goldenmojo was unable to find his thermo meter, sigh! Anybody else have a valid # for the present temp of the water? AuMojo where are you?

Been mid to high sixty's during the days with nights down to the low forty's so the snow should still be melting. Higher temps expected this coming week............63bkpkr

Herb there is soooo little snow to melt this year the temps will definately go to historic highs this summer. The most recent snow survey had no snow to survey at more than half the historical points :dontknow: John

The last snow survey was done almost a week after it snowed 2 ft., which half or more melted before it was done. Is that taken into account? Folsom lake is nearly full.

Herb. Got out late to Yankee Jim's ( past noon) with a thermometer. Took a reading at 3 o'clock. Waded in to knee level, water felt warm like 63. Thermometer read 64 after a half hour 3 feet deep. Water was clear and groups of swimmers out below the bridge in the big pool. Water level was down and had dropped overnight and then started rising about 2 pm. I believe my estimate of a couple of weeks ago was probably accurate and there has been approx 10 degree jump in the past 2 weeks. I now have the Tmeter in my pack so I will get you a reading everytime I get up there along with a few pics. Take Care.

You Rock Mojo!

Even the Pictures are Golden!! Thank you goldenmojo! Yes indeed that is the country I fell in love with in February of 1963, the first time I hiked into Green Valley. Sigh! In Texas a person can see a very long distance (aka - it is flat). 63bkpkr

Folsom may appear nearly full but it is only at half capacity. Remember the last 20 feet elevation may hold half the storage depending on the shape of the reservoir.

True about the storage capacity. The lake is starting to rollover now and will soon be down to 400',370', 350'? I will be ready for it this time as my greenhorn is turning to a light golden color......

Waters levels should be very low by fall. Water temps will be very high. Start looking for a wetsuit on Craigslist!

The mayonnaise jar is awaiting......

I have 3 wetsuits for sale ! Finally bought a new one .

Hefty1,
Missing "home", I shed a tear when I turned in my CA drivers license!

I look at the pictures posted of the NorCal countryside and of the crystal clear water and it really tugs at my heart strings!

However to date I've a five year plan for Texas, in five years IF I've been a good boy I will have all the student loans paid off and I will take a look around to see what the possibilities are.

I AM exercising, loosing weight, the CA work stress is dropping away, the dark spots under my eyes are going away, I am enjoying the work, my work is appreciated and the bike is running well! In general the move to Texas was a good choice and it still has the possibilities of being a golden opportunity so I will just keep trying. I've been here for just short of 4 months and it seems like less than a week. All is well! How about you?

After Texas I can picture a 12 horsepower outboard engine on a nice row boat, simple fisherman's type of boat, a piece of property with a 'nice cabin', a solid 4 x 4 truck, a wood stove, a good chain saw and maybe even 4 seasons to look forward to as well as a garden and a place to sight in my .22.

My best to you, 63bkpkr/Herb
