The military is significantly smaller, as well.

I was fortunate not to have your experience ... sadly, I know SEVERAL who were not as fortunate as I.

I've seen the results of that kind of pain and the resulting pain as an adult ... drug abuse, alcoholism and even a suicide.

Not because they were gay, but because of the shame they felt because they were abused by someone in a position of authority.

What the hell are you doing.... talking about a pro-rated comparison or actual numbers or personal between the 60's or now? Govt. doesn't have to get larger only because it's population is expanding. And if you say so... Why? And please don't say because the IRS and Govt. programs need more help because of expanding population only... please. Do mean the Govt. in the 60's had more personal than now... head to head? So one more time we had MORE personal working Govt. programs than NOW?.... yes or no.

Actual numbers. On a percentage basis (% of the workforce) Federal government employees are less than half of what they were in 1966.

Taxes? Lower. Size of government? Smaller. The number of Federal government employees is down from 2012. And, just to save some time here and to avoid embarrassing a few people, temporary US Census workers were not counted.

This country should be renamed, The United States Of Nitpickers. The bottom line is Robertson has a right to speak his beliefs. No matter how draconian, oppressive, or offensive they may or may not be, period. End of discussion.

What happened to Robertson isn't a free speech issue. it's an employment issue. Robertson, in his role on Duck Dynasty is an employee. A&E owns the show, all rights to the show, and all merchandise rights. As owner of the entire Duck Dynasty empire (mini empire? ) A&E is well within it's rights to protect it's property. Even if that means protecting it from it's own employee. AS well, A&E must take into consideration the bigger picture of how one Employee's actions affect the entire A&E brand. That's why they suspended him, but haven't fired him. ( and though we can debate into the ground whether or not his comments were gay bashing or expressing a religious belief, there is no such leeway regarding his comments about blacks.)

IOW, What Phil did was something to displease his employer. As we all know that is not a smart thing to do. Anyone here exercise free speech at work?

Certainly, Phil has a right to express his opinion and beliefs. However, Phil is not so innocent here. Working for A&E for five seasons, he is well aware of his employer's sensitivity to religion, religious beliefs, and religious topics as they relate to the show. ( for five seasons A&E has taken much religious content out of the show) While GQ was interviewing Phil Robertson the reality TV star, man of God, business man, family patriarch, they were also interviewing Phil Robertson the A&E employee. And Phil knew that.

As for socialized health insurance - the Federal government isn't offering health insurance. Private companies are.

What do you think of Sarah Palin? Did you know she introduced socialism to Alaska when she was governor? She pushed through a so-called "windfall profits tax" on oil companies doing business in the state. Based on the market price of oil, the companies pay the state which distributes the money directly to the citizens. Classic socialism. Yet I've never heard or read any so-called conservative complain about ACES.
