In CA at 1000' on a ridge a few miles from Auburn, my neighbors road is cut into a hillside and in that hillside is decomposed granite, red dirt, and dozens of bright white quartz rocks, some clearer than others. This fascinates me and makes me wonder how this hillside came to be millions of years ago.

Would this be a gold bearing area? I would test it myself but it's not really mine to take but I would knock on his door if there are any solid leads on this combination of earth.

Thanks for any input!

Check out the mineralogical history of your county on the net. That may give you some answers.

Hi,

We are finding gold on decomposed granite along some portions of Folsom Lake. Scraping the surface in catches gets the gold. We think the gold has been washed in from above. Most of the decomposed areas on the lake contain no gold.
