Hi everyone, I live in the beautiful upper peninsula of Michigan. A friend of mine loves to travel around prospecting for gold, and has had a few success's. Today he and I went to a shut down iron mine that is near me and found some interesting finds in the tailings piles. I am very close to being hooked. We found a lot of color in certain places (I'm sure most of it is iron pyrite). My friend has a rock crusher to make powder from rocks and then runs that through a "Black Magic" fine gold recovery system.
1. Is this the way to get gold from solid rock?
2. I brought a lot of color home, what is the best way to see if there is any gold with the pyrite?
3. There are a lot of reddish crystals along with gold and silver crystals. What is the best guess from the experienced people here what the red is.
I can post a video if it will help.
Glad to be here and hope to learn a lot.
