Hello all! Long ago my dear departed Dad was interested in doing some detecting when he and Mom were doing their camping ventures so he bought the best unit he could afford. Long story short, he never did do much of it. He never found enough to keep his interest in it so it eventually found its way to the attic. The last time it saw the light of day was about 10 years ago when it was taken down to help find a lost ring.

The older I get the more I am interested in history. A very good friend and also my boss has some property that has an old farmstead on it. I'm 50 years old and lived here all my life and never remember a house there so I'm not real sure where it sat but the barn and a shed are still there yet. I know where there are 2 old wells also. I'm assuming the larger of the wells is close to where the house was, its also on higher ground and some distance from the barn.

There is a creek that runs through this property as well and I remember looking at a map some time ago that was an old fur trader map that showed locations of native american camps and trading posts. For the life of me I cant remember where I saw it though. :dontknow:

At any rate, I'm hoping I can learn to use this thing and have some fun. 8-)

The 6000/Di was one of the best old school analog detectors White's ever made. You should do well with it once you learn it. You can download info from White's site and they have some very good forums specific to their detectors. Good luck!

Great machine. I bought one just like it because they work so well. Once you learn its language, it will serve you well.

Thanks, I think its going to take a while to learn its "language" though. :occasion14: Glad I can put another one of Dad's toys to use again just the same.

Congrats on the new to you machine!

love the color...

About two years ago an old man in his 80's had 3 metal detectors for sale. I asked him what he had for sale. He told me an older whites coinmaster model 6000/DS series 3 just like the pic you show. I told him I was going to buy a Garrett ATP because of VDI and he told me all that stuff may be good but I can find anything you can with my machine. He said learn one detector well and you will never need another one. I have since learned that to be true. It makes no difference how many bells and whistles your detector has if you don't learn it and learn if well you won't find anymore with a $2000 detector than you will with a $200 detector.

Enjoy your Dads long long detector

Nice machine, and a big coil too. I'm sure it will serve you well. You might want to look into converting it into a hip or chest mount once you get familiar with it as it is a heavy unit. Not at first, but at the end of a day of detecting you will see what I mean. Cheers!!

Enjoy the detector! Looks like you have an interesting place to hunt.

Good Luck this season.

I agree with everybody else on here..that is a VARY nice machine and I can tell you that like other people have said if you learn its language it well find just about anything anyone else will find with a high dollar machine...I know from experience, bought an e-trac and then bought a ctx3030 and I am know using my whites 6000 Di Pro Sl and finding a lot more...but I learned its language years ago on the older whites 5000d....whites in my opinion made the best analog machines on the market, I have been trying for months know to find a whites pro XL...hard to find..because people know how good they are and don't want to let go of them.
