Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this site and to metal detecting. I just bought a Garrett AT Pro and still reading the manual and fooling with the settings in my house,,,trying to figure this thing out. If anyone can give me some simple tips for it I'd appreciate it.

Welcome...

from Central Florida!

I'm in your same boat...same MD.
Read the booklet...watch the Garrett AT Pro videos...get some objects (rings, coins, can tabs, something iron) and practice in the yard. That is helping me discriminate all the sounds.

welcome the at pro will work great for you

I did watch the videos as you suggested and they were and are a wealth of information. THANKS!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind welcome. Are there any parks that you're allowed to search in? Seems like here in N.E. Ohio the parks are all off limits. Any suggestions where else to search? Slow starter here.

Communicate with people in your neighborhood. Ask a friend if it is OK to metal detect in his/her yard. People see you detecting, and may ask questions. That's your chance to offer to detect in their yards. Sometimes they will even give you ideas of where to detect elsewhere such as a friends farm. The more you chat with locals, the more ground you will get to detect. Offer to show them how you find "stuff". Carry a small notebook and pen so you can be ready to record names, locations, etc given by the people you meet. Trust me, your arm will fall off before you run out of places to detect.
