Metal Detecting
Metal detected an excavated empty lot.....about 4-5 feet down from the surface. I was metal detecting along the freshly bulldozed edge/cliff. No metal found except this silver object. It was covered in clay, when I got home and rinsed it off this it what it was. I took it to a couple of coin shops and they said it is possibly a coin, but to badly decomposed to identify any markings. :BangHead: It is pictured beside a quarter for scale. It is semi magnetic, too. Just want to make sure it's not anything before I toss it out. Thank you for any help, image.jpg Poppntabs P.s. Thank you to all of our Veterans!!:hello:image.jpgimage.jpg

Doesn't look like a coin to me, seems too thick and odd shaped.

Could be a "melt". Silver coin or button subjected to a fire.

Don't toss anything out! Every time I do, I find I need it about a week later, even if it's been sitting for years. In your case it won't take up a lot of room so the wife/ girlfriend should not be troubled. 😉

Semi - magnetic would remove silver from the discussion I would think , could it be a melted nickel ?

Yes it's slightly magnetic and was 80% covered in a black tarnish when I rinsed it off from digging it out of the ground. I wiped it dry with a soft cloth and saw the surface and further revealed the grooves in the metal. It is a fairly soft metal, and heavy, it may contain lead. Does this look like a flattened bullet? A mystery for sure, but thank you all for your help, comments and questions! They are greatly appreciated.
