as far as places in the Dallas Area,

this Page may help some

your son Should be able to handle the Garrett 250

or if $200.00 is a bit steep, try Walmart or Radio Shack
for a Bounty Hunter. They can be bought for as little as $70.00
I believe.

Thanks Jeff! I will probably look into the Radio Shack or Walmart detector. Any experience in buying a detector off of ebay?

Do you know where I can get quick tips for starting in metal detecting?

Again thanks,
CCB

EBay can be a good place to get a deal sometimes.
But you have to watch out for them Chinese Detectors
they are selling by the Hundreds. they work, but Service after the sale ?

and some of the Sellers.

The best Tip I can give you is Read alot of the Threads here in "Metal Detecting" here where you see the words New or Newbie.

also, you want to start in your yard, it most likely is un searched ground. lay a few different coins down and Practice swinging over them slowly to get an Idea of what to listen for, then go over your yard digging everything.

this will give you practice at, detecting, pinpointing & Digging.

What type of Detector did you get ?

I should say, Don't be afraid to ask Specefic Questions,
if you have any.

As I may not be answering you with the right answers.

And Remember, there are no Dumb Questions.

My husband was great by giving me a metal detector last Christmas but I don't know which places to search in the Dallas and Richardson areas. Any suggestions or where to search for suggestions?

Any quick tips for new beginners?

My son (9) wants to start metal detecting as well. Any suggestions on detectors for youth?

Thanks,
CCB
Welcome. I woulda said so sooner, but, I have been outta town.

Bounty Hunter 3300 at Radio Shack. About a hundred bucks. Stay away from the 1100. It is decent, but, you will be better off with the 3300. GL and HH

Laater...
