Newbie From Old Line State

Hi all! Just retired and looking for a hobby. Thought about doing some metal detecting. Never had one (or even know anyone who does) so I came here to learn. BTW ... Old Line State is Maryland.
I live on the Chesapeake Bay so I'd like a starter detector that can handle some wet sand as well as dry land but keep the price just south of $400. Be talkin' with ya'll!
