Hello All. My Son and I both got Garrett detectors for Christmas and we've already been out looking for treasures! He got a Garrett 150 and I got a Garrett 350. We live in civil war territory in Northern VA and have already found a couple war time relics on our property. The 65 plus acres we are on sit adjacent to RR tracks that were present during the war. Our property has rock walls on several property lines and random piles of rock and large rock out croppings in several locations. Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Still learning the different tones of the detectors. Lots of "iron" hits all over the place.

Thanks
-Kevin

65 acres otta keep you both busy for a while,if I lived closer I'd help check it for you:laughing7: GodBless Chris

welcome kevin, your property sound like a great spot, look for likely areas on the farm and grid it out and work it over carefully, bet yall find some neat stuff

WELCOME AND HAPPY DIGGIN---

Thanks for the Welcome notes.
I just posted my first pics in the "What is it" Section.

Welcome to the forum I am new to this forum as well but not to the hobby. I would search along those stone walls and around those piles of rocks because there may be something someone buried there so they would know where it is when coming back for it

I am definitely going to concentrate along the stone walls and large rock outcroppings. I already know there was troop movement through and around this property and if I was a tired trooper i wouldn't sit in an open field and rest, I would go sit with my back against the big rocks! I'm currently fighting a learning curve with the Garett 350. Really need to figure out how to tweak the settings so I'm not trying to dig every time I get a hit on "iron" !!

Kevpilot,
Welcome to you and your son! On Tnet under Metal Detecting there is a Brands section. I suggest you go to the Garret section to ask specific questions about your machine as that is likely the fastest way to approach getting answers.

Walls would just be there to remove stones from the land or for some other purpose and rock piles are piles of rock BUT in both cases it took people to make them and people loose things so they are a place to look. The best of success to you both with your adventures on your property and elsewhere............63bkpkr

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like your in a great place to use your new detectors. I hope you and your son become as addicted as the rest of us, which = FUN! Happy Hunting.
