8) Hey all
Just got my new ace 250 from a local pawn for 100.00. I have been out to the schools and parks. I have found pocket change.

Little about me. I am 30 male. I was in the army for 5 years. I live in Birmingham, AL. My hobbies include gold prospecting and hiking. I have always loved finding what other has lost. I go to dumps just to look around. I love going to yard sales and auctions. I am now going to enjoy my new hobby MDing. Once while dredging in Talladega county(gold camp on the Talladega creek) I found a about a 1/2 penny weight of dust and a few pickers. The best thing in the dredge was a gold ring. There were several old bottles but I trough them to the side. Now I wish I checked them out better.

I am looking for some one to help me get started with the medal detector. There is just miles and miles of woods around here andseveral old swimming holes and home stead that I am eager to go and check out.

Has any one ever MD'ed around lakes for old fishing lures or is the MD not good for that.

Waiting to hear from all and hope that all will find the glory cache someday : after me of coarse. ;)

Welcome sgoss, sounds like you're off to a good start. $100 for a Garrett 250 is a treasure in itself. With my understanding, it won't take long to pay for itself. It'll be interesting to see what finds you make. As far as fishing lures, I've never tried a MD for that purpose. HH :)

Welcome to the forum! I have an ACE250 myself, and I love it! I use it mainly in coin mode around parks and schools, though I am planning to put it to the test next weekend on a colonial era farm site in Conn. For hunting in the woods, I would try using it in all metal mode, or in jwelery mode if you don't want to dig lots of trash. As far as hunting on lake or river shores for fishing gear, again, hunt in all metal. I'm sure you'll finds lots of lures, rusty hooks, lead sinkers, and pulltabs, as well as coins. Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing you post some finds!! HH!

Welcome sgoss, The 250 will serve you well . If your talking about going on th water with it,Don't. But everywhere else have at it.
I think you have a great area to hunt and it sounds like you already know the ropes about the areas. Gold Prospecting and sluicing and panning must be great up there.Hope to hear some more.HH

Great to hear from you all. The fishing lure crossed my mind eating lunch today . We ate at an antque mall and I saw a display of old fishing lures. I have walked the banks of the local lakes while water is down and luck picking up old lures. The money is in the real old wood ones.
I hope to go tuesday morning to either a old home stead or a old swiming hole hope to have something to post.

I still need to work out all the beeps on the 250. I will try try the coin garden.

I think you'll like the ACE, great deal by the way! I sent an e-mail to Garrett and they said the coil is submersible which means you can dunk it in the lake if you want to. They said I could go as deep as I wanted as long as I didn't get the control box wet. Of course you always run the risk of tripping over an old log or car tire and falling clear down, at that point you're in trouble.
