I think what Big Disco (who is a charter member AND a junior member, no less!) is saying is that back in the 1970's, he/she was really into Disco music, and liked all things round, like disco records and … 50 cent coins. But NOT Ben Franklin — so 18th century! That's why Big Disco threw back all of the silver Franklin halves.

But no worries — they were deposited in my bank, and I'll be going to pick them up later today!

I became a charter member to support the site and yes I am a junior member. what do they have to do with each other?

Remember: for every Ben you don't throw back you lose four walkers... and some from the seventies. But you will never lose any 70 s's. That is true, however but not if you unbalance the Clad proof continuum. If that's the case, you're just screwed.

I hope this cleared everything up for you.

my first box here next week, hopefully from miami

Too bad u tossed back all those Ben's but I like the new avatar....maybe u should change your name to bigdiscoBen :)

H$H!

lol thanks but big disco is an OLD nickname. but any who:

found this roll of pennies in my toolbox. various dates from 1972 - 96. The pile is a bunch of 80's dates that I need to look up. the scattered pennies are from the 70's.

Check 84, 72, 82 pennies for errors

OK, I'll bite. Exactly what errors should he be looking for?

ok so tally is as follows for the pennies:

(mint marks counted separately. For example there are 5 1988 pennies, two with d mint marks; so that would be written as 1988:3 1988 d:2)

1984: 9

1986: 4

1983: 3

1988: 3

1987: 1

1981: 1

1 1972 with what looks like a printing error?pics to come but looks like a hard die(recessed),

1 1975

3 1977

1 1979

1 1975

mint marks:
1986 d,2 1987 d,2 1988 d in great/good condition, 1985 d, 1974 d

The first pic is the 72 with an eighty something penny as a comparison

OK the 84 and 87s have been known to have a double earlobe need magnify it.

97-00 have w.a.m (wide am)

72s check for doubling on the 2

In the 82 check for doubling "in god we trust".

95 check for on obverse doubling in liberty.

Errors are semi rare but you will find them over time. If not you at least have copper.

It's posts like this that leave me happy to donate and be a charter member.

Thank you,
Jay

The 72 looks like its really recessed on the head side. Error worthy?. oh and what did you think of the penny roll?

Its a pretty good roll wish I could get rolls of coin with old dates lol. As for the 72 I haven't seen the picture good because I'm on my phone. Pretty sure you are saying is, its really indented the lip of the coin is higher then most pennies? If thats the case its fairly common for that to happen with copper pennies I think it has to do with the condition of the die.

there we go! whats that called

1. Those are varieties not errors.
2. The 87 isn't known for a doubled ear. The 88 is but only one has been found.
There are many different doubled dies to look for during the 80s. Go to coppercoins website and you can research.
