StarLink has announced they are unveiling a Direct To Cell option for any mobile phone with LTE/4G capabilities It looks like TMobile is their initial US partner, and a voice feature has not been announced yet, only SMS/data at this time.

What are your thoughts on this and how it may impact the physical activities of Treasurenet users. Would you consider it, and what is your price point top-end limit? Would you switch to TMobile to use it?

I would consider it, if it was less than $15. or $20., it would be a no-brainer if it were even less, say $7. - $10./month.

I think in many ways there are lots of positives. Especially places where we live where there are many dead zones for mobile phones. Every year some dozen or so clueless bush walkers get lost and the man hrs and resources used to find them is ridiculous. They could get found instantly I guess with that system. Road accidents in rural areas with no typical reception would get on to help instantly.
I do have my reservations though with the way technology is going with AI and global link ups like this. Personally I won't be going for it. There's something about Musk that concerns me.

Verizon has been providing satellite texting for a few months. It’s kind of handy so far (for free), but not a game changer unless I was in a bad situation.

I ASSumed it was through Starlink.
