Hello All. I hunted my new best site for the second time. It is a house on the Indian River built in the 1940's but I am finding much older stuff mixed in.

Got an old brass horse tack ring, a Hudson auto part, a cool lighter (past meets the space age), a toasty "Good for 1 at Motlow's" token, a brass candle stick holder, a nice merc, and a LARGE CENT!!

The LC was quite unexpected, this is my 2nd largie and it is the same date as my first one (found last year 30 miles away)....arrghh...hoping for a different date on this one but I will take it.

Not a bad 3-HR hunt and there is still about half of the site left to cover. So I will be going back soon but this hunt will be hard to top.

Thanks for the view, may the finds be with you, and good luck out there. C9

Nice finds that lc is sweet

Gotta be rare to find largies that far south ... Very very nice!

Nice finds! Congrat's!! Your Hudson part is from a sprayer ( for spraying fruit trees etc.)

One possibility for the trade token is Motlow's Saloon in Gadsden, AL. The token is not listed on tokencatalog.com or in Wood's AL Trade Tokens book, so this is really just a guess. Arcadia Press' book, Gadsden, City of Champions, has a photo of Spoon Motlow's Saloon on page 72. Google Spoon Motlow Gadsden and click on books. Interesting to note that Spoon Motlow was a nephew of Jack Daniels (as in whiskey) - the token advertises Harper whiskey. Were the two companies related? Dunno - more research is needed.

Hello idahotokens. Thanks for the reply and the great info.

It has been soaking in olive oil for a couple of days now and I am sure one side says "GOOD FOR 1 AT MOTLOW'S" and the other says "HARPER WHISKEY". I was having trouble ID'ing it, but I think you have it right as a token from Motlow's Saloon in Gadsden, AL opened in 1904 and closed on December 31, 1907 due to pressure from the local temperance movement.

Since Motlow's was open for less than 3-YRs this has got to be a rare token...too bad it is so crusty...BTW I don't drink whiskey often but I cashed it in last night with a shot of Jim Beam.

Thanks again and good luck out there. C9

How about posting pics of the Motlow's token on TokenCatalog.com after you get it out of the olive oil? Maybe it would get a more positive attribution there.
