All Treasure Hunting
I am not a "treasure hunter" - don't think there is any kind of "treasure" to be found in this part of the world - but I am interested in the technology of metal detecting.

I built a BFO type detector over 20 years ago to clear the nails and screws out of my driveway, an old farmstead, and it worked fantastic: it would indicate a pinhead piece of rust on the surface up to a 12" metal disk 2 feet below grade. I also built a magnetometer a few years later to locate a steam engine on the bottom of a lake - unfortunately the rest of the team didn't follow through so the magnetometer never got a real-world test.

I am still interested in detecting but with metal detectors ranging from $50 to over $3,000 and nothing potentially valuable to be detected unless I design and build one.

Welcome. Maybe not large treasures to be found in your area. However, lost coins and jewelry, artifacts from pioneers, and old fur trade relics may be found.

Welcome anyway.

Welcome "DianneB" to the forum! :occasion14:

I like the idea of building your own detector, very cool. I am sure there is "treasure" around (coins, jewelry and relics) perhaps on your old farm. Enjoy the journey and fun of metal detecting.

Regards,

Doc

Hope to see some good posts and some of your finds Tommy

:hello: Welcome to tnet!

There is always something interesting out there to find. If you live or detect in a more rural area, (Like places here in Montana) remember that back in time people that didn't live near a town with a bank available they would usually put their reserved monies somewhere in safe keeping. And if grandpa or grandma each had a little stowed away and passed away, it was most likely not found. Any detector within price affordability should help you out. Good Luck!
