Hello all,

Nice to be here and I hope to learn a lot about this new hobby in which I've dreamt of getting into since 30 years ago.

I've my sights set on an XP Deus 11" x 35 full version because it seems like a good unit and very light, which shouldn't be too bad on my bad back and knees. It is a lot of money (abot 2k) to invest as a beginner but I'm thinking it's well worth it to get out of the house and do something interesting. A mid-life (old-life) crisis maybe..? I actually ordered one about 10 days ago with all the bells and whistles and then cancelled the order for a couple of reasons. 1. They were late in shipping it. 2. After placing the order and, to my horror, I realised that the remote and manual would be in French language. My French is not so good and my technical French is no good at all. So, I contacted the manufacturer, before cancelling the order, and they said to contact the seller/dealer. The seller/dealer said, as I knew, that only the XP Deus manufacturer can change the language. Got fed up and cancelled everything. To my surprise though, the dealer refunded my funds two days later.

I contacted another dealer here in France and they said they can get it done but there would be a delivery delay from 2 to 3 weeks, and recommended I call them. Wrote and asked them if anyone there speaks English...waiting for their reply.

Meanwhile, I am continuously reading, searching and doing research on the subject.

My intent is to search for gold & coins mainly, and play around in different grounds/countries as I travel. These would include some of the European and Balkan countries. I am thinking some shallow rivers, fields and beaches. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially about my choosing the XP Deus.
Thank you all, and I hope to get some feedback from some of you experienced treasure hunters..!

Welcome from Arizona! I'm not familiar with that detector but best of luck to you with it.

Thank you all for the warm welcome notes..!

Well, while I was set on the Xp Deus and practically engaged to the machine after studying and reading about her for the past two months, I now feel a bit unfaithful.

While reading through these forums, another lass has caught my eye, the Equinox 800. She seems to be an all around kind of a lass, able to perform as well as Miss Deus, if not better, and she seems to do well on wet sand, in the water and on dry land. She is cheap to get and cheaper to keep, simpler to figure out but heavier to carry. I like everything about her except the heavier part. With my broken back and weak knees, heavy scares me a little but I like the fact that she's all around kinda of gal.

Miss Deus is light(er)-which is good, but more expensive, picky about where she goes, requires raincoats and waterproof clothing when she goes swimming, and probably doesn't like saltwater much. She brags a lot and many seem to admire her, but now I'm not so sure about her. She speaks only French, and I have to pay and wait for her to learn English before we can get together and understand each other. Is she worth all this trouble or should I just call it off and pursue Miss Equinox 800..?

Your help and input will greatly be appreciated..!

Starg,

I recently purchased the XP Deus and love it. I had the 800 and never could get my head wrapped around it, I suppose my CTX had a lot to so with it. I sold it before getting the XP and have no regrets, I love the XP and I am by no means knocking the 800, it's a great machine as well, just not for me. Good luck on whichever you chose, both are superb machines, take care, HH and may God bless!!!

You always have an open invitation down here where the grounds never frozen and the temps are barable, especially for you... "D"

welcome to the site from the Colonies! Glad to have you here and hope you can enjoy and benefit from the information found here. When you get around to hunting be sure to post some artifact photos here of your finds. Glad to have ya here and hope you look around some of the other collector sections on the site. It might give you ideas for other kinds of hunting you may be able to enjoy and profit from over there on the Continent. Once again, glad to have you here!!

Hey Possum...

Thanks..! My heart is still with the Deus, and so, I will do a little more research before I decide which way to go.

If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a question or two since you have experience with both machines. Do you feel the Deus is as capable as the E800, especially on beaches and shallow water..? I know Deus requires the waterproof set-up but I don't mind that. I love the fact that the Deus is really light and she'd be easy to swing and to travel with. I've read that the Deus is harder to figure out and operate, but I don't mind that either if I can get my hands on one that "speaks" English and has the owners manual in English too.

I do want a unit that I can use just about anywhere. I know I'll be going to beaches, farm lands, mountains and there is a small river where I was born at that I can't wait to find out if there's any gold in it. So, yeah, my main goal is to hunt for gold but why not do it all if it can be done..?

By the way, which coil did you get to go with your Deus..? If I got this right, 11" X35 seems to be about the best all around coil.

Also, does the E800 fold up, and is there a carrying case made for it like there's one for the Deus..?

Thanks..!

Any advice from you is welcome and appreciated.

Welcome to Tnet. So glad you didn't introduce yourself as an old newbie. :laughing7: The Deus is one hell of a starter machine. :headbang: Just make sure you are knowledgeable in the detecting laws of those countries and Good Luck.
