Detector(s) used
BH pioneer ex
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
new to the forum and new to metal detecting. wanted to start out on the cheap to see if my interests stayed interesting so i got what seems to be the last bh pioneer ex on the planet right before they changed the name to the 1st texas pilot. i was in the surveying business for 23 years so i i have experience in researching, going through the woods and using a magnetic locater (metal detector for iron only). the BH finds coins 6 inches or so but i'm more interested in revolutionary war sights since there are plenty around and not too many civil war sights in my county and the depth on those big iron things i'm plenty satisfied with. the thing is, everytime i think of a cool place to hunt, research it and the area around, i found out the archaeologists have already been there. i guess i just want someone to say, don't worry, they can't find it all, since i'm already getting a little discouraged

Welcome to Treasurenet, dime digger! Don't get discouraged, there are lots of private properties that the archaeologists haven't covered.

Research your area - look at historicaerials.com or google earth timeline to see if older aerial maps or topo maps are online. With that information, you can find old road beds and structures from the past.

Talk to the older residents and ask them where picnics and reunions were held.

You never get it all, there are always more targets in areas you have hunted in the past.

welcome good luck

Hello and welcome aboard! Happy hunting!

Welcome to both the hobby and the site. Don't let it get you down...there's no site that's been hunted out and so many sites (just have to find them) that have never been hunted at all. I spent Sept, Oct, and Nov in and around Bamberg. I found their library to be very helpfult and they also have a histerical society right next door. SC is so full of history...both Revolutionary and Civil War.

I managed to locate an old stagecoach road. I didn't find much on it...not even much trash. It ran from Aiken as I recall to Charleston. Needless to say...waaay to much for me to cover, but I'll just peck away at it a little each year when I return to the Bamberg area. I don't know where you're at in SC, but the oldest gothic arch stone bridge is nw of the Greenville area...as I recall...it predates the Revolution. I'm putting it on my list for next year....when I was there I was only there to photograph it.

Good luck and HH
