New member from Acworth Ga here... Need some help identifying what Ive found

Ladies & Gents,

I bought my Garrett AT Pro yesterday and after watching the video a few times, I went out to give it a try. The attached pictures is what I found, and I need help identifying what it is !!! It registered 99 on the detector and was about 6" under ground. I scanned it with a Xray gun and it read sst316.. Really weird!!!! I live in a heavy civil war area so who knows.... It also could just piece a piece of trash!! Any input would be much appreciated!!!!! Happy hunting

99 on the detector makes me think that it is aluminum. Is it aluminum sigjojo?
 

Looks like a melted blob of aluminum. Keep searching it will get very good. Congrats.
 

I shot is with an XRAY gun which gave me a reading stating it was stainless Steel 316... The piece is not brittle and cant be bent by hand
 

I wouldn't think stainless would read that high, aluminum would. In any case Welcome to the forum and good luck
 

Is it light relative to it's size? Is it heavy... like steel or light like aluminum? If it is aluminum, then it is a "camp fire nugget" or similar piece of melted aluminum. To the best of my knowledge, there are no aluminum CW relics.

X-Ray gun? Whoa...

If it were SS, wouldn't the machine discriminate it out because it is ferrous?

Its stainless steel 316 so no a magnet will not stick to it. I work for a company that sales specialized metals so I'm able to test it for accuracy.. It just looks so weird... Im not sure why the detector registered 99 other that the fact that stainless is made of various elements..
 

It probably registered 99 because of its size a large chunk of iron can read high also don't go by the numbers,Aluminum cans can also register high numbers because of size.
 

Yeah, weird but probably modern (i.e. 20th century). Perhaps melted in fire? Stainless and aluminum will give those high readings (aluminum can, stainless steel spoon etc). Obviously not one of those of course.
