I was pretty surprised because it was so shallow, assumed it was a pull-tab! After taking it under a loop, it's immaculate. Any idea what it might be worth?

they are not really worth a great deal but I never care much for value anyway. Someone on the US side will know better but my guess is about $30-40

I'm the same way but I'm trying to figure out how much left before the E-Trac is paid off. I wanted to have it paid off in finds by Sept :tongue3:

Are you adding in the cost of batteries, digging tools, coils, and gasoline to drive to and from sites each trip?

Perhaps you should find a different way to think about this hobby.

That said, nice finds!

Well, the E-Trac has a rechargeable battery, my Leshe came with it, I only use the stock coil and I generally am only MD within a few miles of my house. :icon_thumleft:

Perhaps I'm very poor and spent a lot of money on my machine and I'm just keep a running track in my head. There's nothing wrong with that. I hunt because I love the hobby and I love saving history from rotting in the earth. I really don't think there's anything wrong though with making sure that a metal detector I spent over 1500.00 dollars on when I don't have much money is paying for itself. I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk, I'm not trying to at all! All it comes down to is, I'm poor and spent money I really didn't have to spend :P

I totally understand you I do the same with anything to insure something is worth while. You need to check that coin some of the mexican coins are rare and can easily pay off your detector. It isn't good to dwell too much on the value of things I almost sold my good car thinking why keep it when I rarely use it I felt I could get an old truck to serve and place an extra 10 grand in the bank. I buy the old truck driving it home and check engine light comes on I get that sinking feeling that I never got with my car that I bought new. I have not taken the truck to see what was the matter with the light coming on it could be a problem large or small but I know I will always have my other car to back me up cause I plan to keep it till death cause it will be there for me as long as I care for it as I have. Great find the coin may be worth quite a bit.

I think I could take a NJ copper about now and call it a year. :icon_thumleft: I have 2 in my collection.

Congrats on two great finds. I would love to see pictures of both sides for each coin.

Thanks

Re: New Jersey Copper & 1753 Spanish 1/2 real

Don't worry man. You can think however you like about this hobby. Hobbies are whatever we make of them, and that varies for everyone. Don't worry about how someone else expects you to think about this hobby. If you want to detect for bottle caps and build a house out of them to sell for profit, that's your business and yours alone.

The only way someone should have an issue with anyone in this hobby is if they are screwing something up for all of us...ie detecting on marked historic sites etc...otherwise, fill your boots.

Nice finds!

Re: New Jersey Copper & 1753 Spanish 1/2 real

Very nice finds. Does the New Jerseys first minted coin have a date? When I found my first Jersey, I found that there are lots of variations of this coin. Have fun researching it. Arty (click on the Maris plates) http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinIntros/NJ-Copper.intro.html
