New hunter in Tallahassee FL

Just got my first metal detector and am located in Tallahassee FL. I have no idea where to start looking other than my back yard or the beach. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea where I can legally go in Leon and the surrounding counties? I have found about of 1.35 worth of various denominations at the beach recently. fun trip to St George not much $ but good food. beaches empty in winter. alligator point was no hits.
parks ok with luck. Have tried several diggers & pointers etc.
ace 350 propointer and lische, and all the others that almost work,
H F pointer better than none, tried and still learning.
when get a solid hit raise the detector up about a foot, if it still hits it is large metal object. do you need ant pull tabs?
with time I dig smaller holes and am able to locate easier. JRL
