looks like you had a great day.
and found you a new hot spot

Nice bell pestle. Good site it looks like. Bet you are stoked. Pouring the rain here.

I love hammer stones. I am a knapper and the ancient ones work better for some reason. I have only found two in my life, but bought three at auctions to round out my toolset lol

I like the 4th one in the pictures the best but all look great. What is the 4th one anyway?

That is what I've always called a turtle back scraper. We called them that because of the shape. This one is broken if complete, you would see what looks like a turtle's head on the upper side along with two more legs. On this one you can see the turtles tail and back legs. This is what the old guys around here have always said. No scientific proof that they are really ment to look like a turtle.

Rained here also. Looks like a nice spot for tools! That is my first bell pestle. It is flat on one side, is that normal. It looks like a multipurpose tool.

I have never heard of any appendages on a turtle back scraper

I think that would count also. He's just in his shell on yours. The older people here would call things what ever it looked like it should be called, and they are the guys I learned from. Probably wrong, but many of these guys never left person county. You know how it is, good old country fellas at the country store. No formal education, but smart just the same.

I think what you have is a complete turtle back scraper. Just a chip missing. What you described was a scraper with graver spurs.

Man! We find them left and right around here. I normally only keep the perfect ones. I do drag the rough ones off to the side of a field to keep it from being damaged further.

So how many of those turtle scrapers you got in that shape? I have found some but more like GB style and they are called humpback scrapers here.

I don't mean to plaster my pics. On your post...but I was thinking like this. Sometimes called a multi-tool. Removes the flesh then scores the bone for making implements.

I am sure you could never plaster enough pics IMO. I love seeing all these new type of artifacts myself. I always find the same type of tools. Mostly small scrapers.

Plaster away. I'm going to post a pic that, too me, looks like it could be a hard stone version of what you have here. It could just be a rock? I'm not sure.

It looks to have been polished at once but the high acid content of our soil ruined it. What do you think?
