Hello all,
Just started treasure hunting with my kids in earnest this past year. My ex wife bought me a Bounty Hunter introductory metal detector several years ago when we lived in New York. I never really picked it up although I have always been interested. I started back with it last year and found some cool relics in the yard, a few wheat pennies and apparently there was an era in Vermont when it only rained nails. But here I find myself in an area of the US with some early history and now I'm doing research of some interesting locations with historic significance that fall in private property. My kids are young and enjoy the digging and hunting and are generally amused with anything we find! I am as well. Went out today and found an old axe head and some small copper hinge that I can't quite put my finger on. Anyway, happy to have found this forum, there seems to be an eternal depth of knowledge and experiences here!

Welcome aboard mate. This is a great pastime and bonding with the kids digging history is a wonderful way to teach them some great lessons. Living out east you will be walking over some way cool old stuff. Dig it all up as even some old iron finds are really cool. Enjoy your adventures and share them with us here on T-net.

Welcome from NW CT, home of the square nails and ox shoes!
