Hello everyone,

I'm new to the game. I spent yesterday metal detecting with my buddy. He just bought a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II. No research was involved... he won some cash in a sports pool at work and bought it on a whim. Seems to me the thing works very well!

I got so interested, I spent the rest of the day surfing the web and reading about metal detectors. I wanted to get one with similar features as his, but a different brand to be sure we'd have things covered. :-)

I just ordered a Garrett Ace 250 and can hardly wait for it to arrive. I'm in upstate NY in an area rich with revolutionary war history.

I'll be talking to you,
Bob

Good Luck and download your manual so you can read it while you wait for your detector. The Ace 250 has quite a following here. You'll enjoy it here I'm sure. Post lots of pics too!

Welcome to the forum, Bob. Looks like you've already started by researching. That makes up 90% of the hobby. Then comes the fun part! Just remember that the only one that thinks a question is dumb is the person asking. Looking forward to your posts and pics. 8)

Im new also Bob and I am also awaiting my shipment of my Garrett Ace 250. Looks like a great detector. Did you read the May article on "Field testing the Garrett Ace 250" in W&ET. Thats what sold me. Ordered my right after I read the article. Keep me posted on how you do as I will do the same. They ship mine today.

Thanks for the kind welcome, everyone.

I did a lot of web searching before I found this forum. I spent hours reading old posts and I can see this is THE place to learn about the addiction... er.. hobby. I also found that this forum seems to be populated by a bunch of pretty nice folks.

My Ace 250 shipped today and should be here on Wednesday. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.

One Christmas when I WAS a kid, an uncle gave me a metal detector kit. I was just a little too young to do a good job soldering electronics and the project was a flop. A few years later, I dug it out and tried to repair some cold joints, etc.. After some intense work, I managed to get it to make a few noises and that was about it. It's always been in the back of my mind since then, and seeing my buddy's new detector was all it took to pique my interest.

I have a nice Nikon digital SLR camera and some macro lenses so I may be able to treat you to some high-quality pull-tab and rusty nail photos. ;)

Talk to you later,
