Land-Mag has been trying for some time to get onto a new farm after they rang him up asking for us to do their land properly. It was our Archaeological connections that helped us get this land, however before we started we wanted an OK from the resident detectorist who has been there some time. He gave the OK, & may well help us in the future, he has had some finds that makes my stuff look like junk.:icon_thumright:

Finally Land-Mag got hold of the farmers daughter this morning & we got the OK to start. It was pouring with rain & close to flood conditions in our area. However, we wanted to see the lay of the land & crop patterns.

I only did 1 hour in the sticky water-logged deep ploughed field; over the cropmark I attached below.

Found some old lead & a Medieval Buckle. Not a great start but I know this farm will turn up some great stuff, we just need to home in on it.

A guy has stuff that makes your stuff "look like junk" I must say that unfathomable. I'm sure though that there at least a few diggers who don't post to forums at all, and some of those have been at it awhile.

Good luck on the return trip.

Those "crop marks" are very cool, are they something you can just see from google earth images ?

Yes, only at the right timeline. They only show at certain times of the year. Thats why I love the Google historial timeline function.

Looks very promising! Hopefully not many others have found these aerial pics... And it seems we got the same rain here too. Only did 1.5 hrs today.

Well, I haven't seen his collection from this land but I have seen what he gave to the farmer & they were some great finds that I have yet to put my coil over. Therefore, I can only assume that the stuff he kept was better.
Although I'm sure I have some finds he would like to get as well.

The crop marks look interesting, definite potential! HH, Mike

UPDATE:

Dad went looking for us when he got home, & then tried a field I wanted to scout on. He spent 45 minutes on it with only 1 button & 1 .58 Enfield Bullet, then tried the nearby Roman Site which we must have cleared well.

On the plus side the Enfield is numbered '2' in the base, & its only our 2nd of this number.

What are crop marks? Is that something in the first picture?

Yes first picture. Marks (crops pulling up moisure from a deeper depth) left in crop at certain times of the year by either long gone ditches, or stonework close to the surface.
