All Treasure Hunting
i hike all over the Reno NV with my md. the ground seems to be mainly granite. but i come across different types of ground. my question is what should look for to dig to find gem, crystals, and ores
i looked on the internet and found some general stuff but nothing that helps me in my area i am so new to this my son helped me with the laptop and getting me started on the web. so maybe i cant find what i need because i don't know where to look.
i metal detect and never leave home without it the same goes for my gold pan. but what treasure am i missing. i know there are some great stuff out there but dont know how or where to start.
so i you know of any books or web sites that would help i would be grateful
thank you

there is a great book series called "A laymans Guide to Roadside Geology" for different states. Chk to see if there is one for NV. I would go to the library& do some research. Look for a local rock shop, that is a great research tool. The owners are usually happy to talk about local finds, & if they are not willing to disclose their hunting grounds, you can at least get an idea of what is there. Good luck, & don't forget to post pix of your finds

John Sinkankas had some great books. I think one of them was called: Prospecting for gemstones and minerals.
It's a good book for a beginner, which also offers a way of thinking/viewing things many book lack.
