Never know what's in with the potaoes in the Netherlands

Been detecting a newly harvested potato field here in the Netherlands. Most of the stuff has been from the 16th and 17th century. And then this pops out. Anybody recognize anything on the coin/token. I think the "E" looking symbol is the key. I'm guessing somewhere about 11th century and somewhere in central/southern Europe.

Thanks,

Daryl

I checked all the Celtic and Saxon symbols and letters. Nothing even close. Just a weird coin/token. Nothing on it looks familiar.

Someone across the Pond should be able to identify that piece, give it time, they know their stuff.

Wow, that is special :icon_thumright:

Not like anything I have seen, it has a Saxon feel (late Saxon 10-11th C), however, it not English (I believe). I will do some book research & update.

Its a great find, I can feel it. lol WELL DONE

Sorry, I can only narrow the search for those with time to research.

Its not English, Scottish, Irish.

I guess it will be circa 11th C.

I look forward to it being IDed.

I'm starting to lean towards French Deniers.

Thats a nice coin, I have one very similar in my collection, I used it as my Avatar at one time.

It did cross my mind as well that it looked a bit Crusade (ish) but I don't think it quite fits. Problem is, I'm clueless with most Foriegn coins.

Can't wait for an ID

Thats pretty good, I hope it is Crusader, that would be very nice. I just haven't seen any coins without a Legend, normally the relms of Tokens etc.. (I know its not a token but it is a real odd one) :icon_scratch:

Re: Never know what's in with the potaoes in the Netherlands

I still can't find any coin/token that has the funny "E" on them. I think that is the key. And I'm not sure if there is a bust there or not. Just a strange coin with "unfindable" symbols.

Thanks for all the help.

The 'bust right' is clearly in the photo (when you get your eye in)

Just thinking.......Given that The Netherlands used to be conquered by the Spanish for quite some time, could it have some Spanish origins?
