That is a beauty ring! Is it marked inside anywhere? congrats, looks like a wax seal ring possibly.

thats a very unusual ring, congrats to ya on that good find..

Looks like an amazing ring but the pictures are a bit large.

that looks like high karat gold to me. deeper in color and nicked up a good deal. and yes, looks to be wax seal variety. very very cool ring! what is the weight?

WOW! :hello2:
Looks ancient, how deep? What detector did ya use?? Any way of telling how old and like the others have said, looks to be of VERY high gold content, and seal matrix as well... OUTSTANDING find buddy congratz!!!!

What do you mean"stirrup ring"is that what you guys call them? The inside does'nt appear to have much wear suggesting to me it was'nt worn for long, you guys got some PRETTY old ground over there,I won't make a guess, but,I'd sure like to know!HH God Bless,Chris

1. STIRRUP = horse stirrup. Means the ring is in the shape of a horse stirrup.
2. From the curves on the sides, I believe this ring to be from the Sasanian Era of Ancient Iran. 2-6 century AD.

WOW !! That is a beauty :headbang: Congrats
Glen

You need to get that thing to a jeweler and maybe a historian and get back to us.

You have my banner vote sir. That is a gorgeous ring. Most people on here would have heart attacks if they found something like that. whats the weight of it?

Dang---cool find----plenty of gold there as far as I can tell---sort of looks like a wax seal ring like royalty in England would wear---probably Muslim ring though--may be worth some big moolah! :icon_thumright:

Whatta Find!
i love old gold rings, but that is OLD :o
certainly banner material, more story on it's finding please

Because I have a friend who is half Iranian, I have seen a lot of carnelian seals from Iran. They have a string with about 50 of them on it from their family.

What stands out for me is the lack of starter rounds in any of the areas. The seal makers would grind round areas first to remove a lot of material, then they would connect them by abrading with straight tools to make the arms and legs, and details of the body. This seems a bit unusual to me.

It is off-center a little too. This is usually caused by being unused to working with grinding tools on the rock. People do this on the first 4 to 5 seals they make, then figure it out and don't do it anymore.

Some of the seals my friend had were off center too, but not by much, and it could have just been from wear, or from the original stone being turned down by grinding so it would fit in the bezel of the ring.

I think there were one or two they had which used a straight tool method like this, but it was much more rare, like 2 examples out of 50.
