So me and Treblehunter got out for a while today..I froze my little butt off..
But we had some fun..
Finds were hard to come by today..We have pounded this place for the last year..
But did manage a few...Take a look..

Also found this button with a cool looking family Crest on it..
Abe looked it up with IP assistance..
Looks as though Neil from west NJ..
Found the same one a few years back..
Hope he can chime in on this.
Thanks for looking
George

It rare for me to get a Livery with that much plating from ploughed land. Shame really, because they are a nice find, especially if I get a new type. Congrats on that one. Lemon juice will clean the face.

Nice digs. I would freeze my butt off any day for some of them finds.

Not only did you find a half cent, but a nice one and an early date to boot. Would certainly make my day. Way to go! Great find.

Thanks doni..
I have not found as many half cent as i have LC..

Just be careful and don't over clean it,the juice can actually take some of the guild off if you over due it.In other words don't leave it to soak,Stay with it and brush it until your satisfied with the results.

Good advice. It is a delicate dance indeed

It is delicate, especially with copper coins. Most people disagree with the method with copper coins and I can understand why.I have ruined quite a bit in the past learning 'the hard way' mostly wheat cents, but once I got the procedure down I found it to be a fast and successful method of cleaning. This is the oldest copper I cleaned with lemon juice and water, 'after I knew what I was doing", and it was pretty hard-crusty coming out the ground063.JPG053.JPGHere are a few of my rookie mistakes oop's:)043.JPG

I never use it on anything other than gilt/plated buttons or roman silver coins. Yes, you only need to do it at 5-10 minutes at a time. I've never had the gilt/plating come off any of mine & I've done tons.

Hey Vino!

Sorry it took me long to reply. The button is a Livery button, as others have said. It belonged to a servant of Clan Hamilton, otherwise known as the House of Hamilton. The link below will give you more info on that. It dates to around 1810 based on the backmark of mine, which is "FIRMIN & LANGDALE / STRAND"

What part of PA was your button found in? It's in terrific shape.

Howdy Vino! Fantastic finds as usual. I must confess, most of the items you find I have no clue what they are but I'm learning. I read your posts religiously as well as those of a few other T-Net members who consistently find coins and relics much older then anything I'll find here in western NC. So I read your posts to gain knowledge. I finally bought a Red Book. I then look up the coins you guys find and am fascinated by them. Heck, I've never found a large cent and you guys find them like cheap hookers in NYC. Congratulations and continued success to you.
