Went out yesterday to a site I've wanted to hunt for years, but never had the right vehicle to get to it. I finally do. It's an old battle site from 1860 between the Paiute Indians and a large militia of over 100 men some where military. The men where ambushed by the Indians and 75 where killed after retreating through a canyon and being pinned down for over 2 hours. It's a really interesting story. After spending the day getting very few signals and a lot of hot rocks, I found 4 of these guys literally within a few feet of one another. I know they aren't worth a whole hell of a lot but they are the first I've ever dug. I will be back again when the ground thaws up a bit more.

Likely from the same piece of clothes, must have been dropped as the soldier ran for his life and the jacket disintegrated to dust over time leaving only the buttons behind.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I was hoping he dropped his money bag as well full of coins, lol

Excellent! You are going to do great there. Research has payed off for you. Good luck on your next trip.

Nice buggy you got there, sweet finds. Are there back marks on those buttons? Good luck in the future at that site, I bet if you look hard and grid search you will find some old coins. I have found with big intimidating sites, that grid searching small blocks at a time produces best for me.

Very nice military buttons. I would call that a great outing to find 4 at the same time.

Awesome finds, congrats! The soldiers would have instinctually run to high ground, behind cover. I would check behind rock outcroppings, ledges, etc...just off of the flatland. I hope you find many more goodies there! Sub 8-)

Lange & Walsh mfg co. is what's stamped on the back of them.

You definitely have the right vehicle now. Congrats on finding a coat full of matching buttons. They made 4 button coats so I'm guessing you got them all from that one. I was lucky enough to find four buttons together and even though they are in bad shape I consider it one of my best finds of all time.

Awesome saves on the buttons. Lots of untouched places out this way!!! Good luck!

Nice finds. Not sure what the Paiute Indians had for weapons but I would also keep an lookout for arrowheads.:icon_thumleft:
