Ok Folks...I know this isn't a poisonous snake, but when it is in your bedroom it will make your heart skip a few beats. My wife walked in the bedroom and hollered..."SNAKE"...and I had the fight or flight syndrome...the flight almost won out. Then it hit me, if I don't find and get this snake, there will be another foreclosure in the near future. I didn't have anything to "whack" it with and I was barefooted..not an option at the time. It then slithered past the closet door...thank goodness it was shut and it couldn't get in there...and went straight behind my dresser. Of course, I had some of my good things behind there so I had to move some of the things and then I saw it...darn thing was looking at me. When he saw I had the killer look in my eyes, he slithered under the dresser and I was hoping he wouldn't get into one of the drawers. I thought..gun..then I thought.."hole in the floor" not good. After about 30 mins of cat and mouse I came out the victor...Time for a large drink....but all I have is Pepsi, so guess that will suffice. So, for all you snake lovers out there, can you tell me what kind it was??? I was thinking garter but not so much now..then I thought corn snake but not as bright a color...Thanks in advance...

All I can say for sure is..."I thoroughly examined her
And she's not only merely dead
She's really most sincerely dead" from the Coroner in the Wizard of Oz..lol

Definitely a gray rat snake, also known as oak snake and other regionally developed names. Aside from the indigo snake, the rat snakes (especially red and gray) are about the tamest, most docile snake you will run into. They are usually excited when you first catch one, and that is when you stand the best chance of being bit by one. (about the same as a lizard bite). Hold it close to the head until it calms down a bit, and then you can play with it for hours. They like to wrap around your arm and snooze. I've had them wrap around my arm and stay there while I go about doing my usual activities during the day. Look at the belly for a pretty checkerboard pattern of black and white.

Next time, if you can get over the fear that is usually induced upon sight of a snake, grab him up and play with him a bit. You might be surprised to find yourself being befriended by a snake, lol!

Had to post a follow up to this!!! A friend of mine called about three weeks ago.... and had a small Copperhead in her basement... I caught him easy enough.. but then said something stupid like "Where there's one there might be more!!" and spent the next 4 minutes searching for more.. nothing... stupid thing to say!!!

I did pull 5 big old blacksnakes out of my house when I was renovation it... I tore out a lot of the back side of the house to replace rotten area around the stone and chimney.. and man.. they love the tin roof on a cold day!!! I pulled down part of the ceiling and there were two huge ones in the rafters.. the others were both found on the move!! The only thing that concerned me.. was I found a snake turd.. had been a mouse!! on top of the air handler in the attic a few weeks after we installed it... never did find him!!! I caught them all and just let them go up in the backyard... over the next 5 years my wife would see them.. I would have to catch them and haul them away... drive 5 miles away and put them in a corn filed or the woods.. I did this a bunch of times... till we had a copper head show up!! So the blacksnakes stay now!!

ky treasure ghost get some 38 special "rat shot" type shot shells they will fit in your 357 and are much less damaging than a bullet is indoors since your scared of snakes---- outside for dangerous snakes -- 12 gauge and #6 shot dues the trick nicely --- I only kill dangerous to man snakes --the others are useful to humans (eat rats and bugs) --- kiled a 4 foot copperhead with my sword awhile back for my elderly female neighbor --man she makes some good cookies ;D

Almost 100% sure it's a rat snake. Lots of them around here.
