One thing, to be sceptical about when dealing with census', is that often the census taker relied on information provided by neighbors or non-related people when they couldn't catch the family at home.
Early, in my rookie research years, I found a census that said my G-G-grandfather was from France. I don't know how many hours of research I wasted trying to chase that rabbit around!
