I found this hunting last weekend in my hometown of Trenton, ga. I believe this is a smokehouse design and hope that it is from the 1800's. I found one on ebay that was very close but the key hole configuration was wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I would like to put this through electrolysis but I'm afraid that it will destroy the lock since it is pretty rusty. Any advice would be awesome.

Hey Chapp12,

I found a similar lock that was completely rusted over. After placing it in electrolysis for a few days I was able to remove a considerable about of corrosion although it did begin to separate into 2 pieces. I stopped it there and hot wax sealed it- I would still run yours through electrolysis, but in short intervals. Perhaps take it halfway to the base metal and seal it up. Here's mine

Thanks guys for the comments. Vmiairpwr07, I will take your advice and put it through some light electrolysis before waxing. I was able to remove a good bit of rust with a toothpick last night but would like to get it a little cleaner before sealing it up.
