This was a gift from my grandmother. It belonged to a Freemason in her second husband's family. Unfortunately he passed away, so I have very little background knowledge of its history.

It is a bear claw which has been encased in what I assume is low karat gold. with 3 small rivets. The letters etched into it are R.F.P. or R.F.J (the original owner). other than that, there are no other markings besides the little hand-tooled pattern around the top.

I'm hoping that some of you can identify this. could it be some kind of award? I would love to know the relative age of it!

My grandma also said that it could be over a hundred years old. I have seen similar examples from the victorian era online. However, haven't seen anything related to the freemasons.

hit me up with any guesses as to its usage, or its age

That is really sweeeet
