found this nifty little whatzit yesterday with the C$ - it has a gold or gold plated top with three fancy initials "MEW" and each side has a gold heart with the balance in brass - I'm not sure what it came off from or what it originally was - any help or opinions appreciated!!! Thanks for looking - Hawkeye Jim.

Does the end with the pointy tip look like it has been broken off of something?

Can't tell if there are any pieces missing but the initialed part makes it loo like a Cuff link. Fancy one too!
Nice Find!

Looks like a wax seal I have found in the past. Someone mentioned the letters would be the wrong way around, which is true. However the person with the plank seal making the letters may not have been clever enough to realise that. I have seen other bodged examples.

The pointed end does indeed look like it might of been broken off of whatever it was attached to.

At first glance, it appears to be a fob seal with the suspension loop missing. However, the lettering should be reversed for use as a seal. Perhaps it's a faux seal, merely ornamental rather than functional, as some of them have non-reversed lettering. Here's a fob seal, also with a heart motif on the side, in 10K gold.

It very well could be a seal W-E-M could be someones initials. After all, if you spell bob backwards....

The house yard that I found this object dates back to the 1880's and the first owner of the property's name was Michael Wieres - hence the "MEW" initials - I'm leaning toward the hat pin, but if I'm right, the initials are for a man, so I'm still not sure what it came off from. Hawkeye Jim.

Sure does look like a seal or signet of some kind, but I agree that the letters should be reversed if it were a wax seal or something like that. Whatever it is, it's probably Victorian, judging from the degree and style of ornamentation on it. Dunno exactly what it is, but it scores fairly high on the Lord M coolness meter...
